In the past 24 hours, Nepal has seen a series of landslides affecting various regions, resulting in injuries to 18 individuals. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, a total of 18 people have been injured due to landslides originating from different areas in the country.
The spokesperson for the authorities, Ram Bahadur Keshi, mentioned that incidents of landslides have occurred in Sankhuwasabha, Makwanpur, Syangja, Pyuthan, Arghakhanchi, Rolpa, Dang, and Salyan. He specified that in Rolpa alone, eight people have been injured due to landslides.
In one instance, eight children were injured in the playground of a school in Rolpa due to a landslide, while in Dapla of Triveni Rural Municipality in the same district, two individuals were injured in a house hit by a landslide.
Keshi further informed that in Raksirang of Makwanpur, two people were injured, two in Ayiravati Rural Municipality of Pyuthan, and two in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City of Dang due to landslides. Additionally, landslides from various areas have caused injuries to one person each in Silichong Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha, Galyang Municipality of Syangja, Malarani Rural Municipality of Arghakhanchi, and Triveni Rural Municipality of Salyan.
Moreover, one person was injured in Rasuwa due to a landslide, and two individuals were injured in Rupandehi as well. Keshi highlighted that a total of 30 incidents of disasters have been reported in various districts.
In response to this news, Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News commented, “The frequency of landslides in Nepal is concerning and underscores the urgent need for better disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies in the country.”
