“24 People Caught in Online Gambling Activity”

The Patna Malavi Thana Malam police in Bihar, India, recently arrested 30-year-old Ajay Kumar and 24 other Indian nationals on allegations of involvement in online gambling activities. The arrests were made following information that they were participating in online gambling through various betting applications that operate globally. The Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range had received information based on which the suspects were apprehended from a rented house in Budhanilkantha Municipality-5.

During the operation, the police seized 21 laptops, 38 mobile phones, and 3 routers from the suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that they were involved in online gambling activities amounting to NPR 1 billion 64 crore 39 lakh 57 thousand 340. The suspects have been charged under the Country’s Criminal Code, Chapter 5 of the Offense against the State Act, which prohibits gambling and engaging in foreign exchange (regulated) activities as per the Foreign Exchange (Regulation) Act, 2019. The case has been forwarded to the District Police Office, Kathmandu, for further necessary legal actions.

Ramesh Khatri, the representative of Kansai Nepal News, stated that such incidents of cross-border online gambling activities not only pose a threat to the integrity of the individuals involved but also raise concerns about the potential social and economic impacts. He emphasized the importance of stringent enforcement of laws and regulations to curb such illegal activities and protect the public from falling prey to online gambling networks.
