On Monday night, in the Jhor area of Tokha Municipality in Kathmandu, a man named Kusang Lama was arrested with a sum of 25 crores equivalent to euros and American dollars. Lama was apprehended while heading towards the Kerung border with China after obtaining the money.
The 43-year-old Lama, who had previously served a five-year prison sentence for involvement in gold smuggling, was intercepted in a truck with number plate 7 KHA 1652. He was carrying a significant amount of money at the time of his arrest.
The police held a press conference on Tuesday afternoon to announce Lama’s arrest. It was revealed that Lama had hidden the money behind the driver’s seat in a false bottom compartment. This led to his detention by the authorities.
According to the police, Lama had previously been involved in a gold smuggling case and had been released in 2078 after confiscation of 7 kilograms of gold from him in Kalanki.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over the increasing cases of smuggling activities in Nepal. He highlighted the need for stricter border control measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
