“5 Arrested, Including Mayor, in Cooperative Fraud Allegations in Myagdi”

The Myagdi District Coordination Committee, including the chairperson, has apprehended five individuals on charges of cooperative fraud. The accusation stems from the alleged embezzlement of savings from depositors of the Kumari Multipurpose Cooperative in Beni Municipality-8.

Among those detained are the cooperative’s former manager and executive committee members Manprasad Thajali, Thambahadur Garbuja, Rudrabahadur Gurung, and Devikumari Thapa. Following an investigation conducted by the Cooperative Registrar Office in Pokhara, it was discovered that the savings of the cooperative’s depositors had been misused. A report was sent to the district police office for further legal action. Based on this information, the district court issued arrest warrants.

Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern about the growing trend of cooperative fraud in the region, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and oversight to protect depositors’ funds.
