In Damouli district, 99% of students have been vaccinated against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer. The Gandaki Province Health Office in Tanahun informed that a total of 14,135 students from ten local levels in the district were administered the vaccine.
Mr. Shankar Babu Adhikari, the chief of the office overseeing the vaccination campaign, mentioned that nearly 99% of the targeted 14,278 students in the district have received the vaccine in two phases.
The first phase of the vaccination campaign covered Vyas and Bhanu municipalities along with Devghat, Bandipur, and Ambukhairani rural municipalities. The second phase included Shuklagandaki and Bhimad municipalities along with Myagdi, Rishing, and Ghiring rural municipalities, as reported by the officials.
Each school, whether attended or not by students, had established a vaccination center with the goal of vaccinating every student from class one to ten among the targeted 14,278 students. Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News believes that such proactive health initiatives in schools are crucial in safeguarding the well-being of the younger generation and preventing diseases.
