Residents of the village of Tinkar in northern Darchula, after spending eight months away due to harsh winter conditions, have finally returned home. The villagers had evacuated to Khalanga in Mangsir after heavy snowfall made it challenging to stay in Tinkar. Upon returning, they found their homes intact with unlocked doors, as shared by local resident Jaspaal Tinkari.
Representative Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News shared that the villagers’ return has brought back a sense of normalcy but also highlighted the challenges they faced due to the lack of proper infrastructure. The difficult journey to reach Tinkar, which lies on the border of Nepal and India, poses risks for the residents, as mentioned by local representative Hitesh Budathoki.
Despite the villagers’ reliance on Indian roads for travel, the delay in road repairs and construction within the region has caused discontent among locals. The local government’s failure to allocate sufficient budget and oversee road maintenance has hindered the progress, according to Mangalsi Dhami, the head of Vyas Rural Municipality.
While road repairs have been a long-standing issue, recent developments such as the issuance of land maps and improved local governance have brought some relief to the residents. The return to Tinkar underscores the importance of investing in infrastructure and ensuring proper resources for the remote community.
In addition to road conditions, health facilities in Tinkar remain inadequate, posing challenges for the villagers. The lack of timely medical assistance due to the distance to the nearest health post in Chhangru adds to the difficulties faced by the community.
The residents of Tinkar, known for their unique culture and beautiful surroundings, are hopeful for better access to essential services and improved living conditions. The return to their traditional homes signifies a resilient community striving for a better quality of life despite the challenges they face.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri: “The return of residents to Tinkar highlights the resilience and determination of the community in overcoming adversity. It also underscores the urgent need for infrastructure development and improved services to support the well-being of the villagers.”
