Akashi City has recently unveiled its proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025. The general account shows a continuous increase for the eighth year in a row, reaching a record-high scale for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget includes significant developments around JR Nishi-Akashi Station, emphasizing the creation of a safe and secure town center focused on children.

In the town development strategy for 2025, the city aims to foster a “more compassionate town of Akashi” through dialogue and co-creation, with a strong emphasis on community-building centered around children. The total budget for 2025 amounts to approximately 232.23 billion yen, marking a 4.4% increase from the previous year.

In the revenue section of the general account, a decrease in corporate municipal taxes is offset by an increase in individual municipal taxes, totaling around 47.1 billion yen, a 4.4% rise from the previous year. As for expenditure, investments in projects such as the Nishi-Akashi Revitalization Project and the enhancement of junior high school facilities have led to a 21.5% increase in expenses, amounting to 13 billion yen compared to the previous year.

Regarding the town development policy, initiatives to ensure the safety and security of citizens, unique children-focused programs, and the introduction of the “Inclusive Ordinance,” the first of its kind nationwide, are highlighted. The city also plans to leverage its natural resources for town development and enhance the attractiveness of Oozora Coast.

From the viewpoint of Ramesh Khatri, the representative of Kansai Nepal News, this budget proposal demonstrates Akashi City’s strong commitment to inclusive and child-friendly urban development. He appreciates the focus on safety, community well-being, and environmental sustainability reflected in the diverse range of projects outlined in the budget.
