An MP’s Discontent in Budget Allocation

Members of the parliament have expressed dissatisfaction with the budget allocation. During a recent meeting of the House of Representatives, a majority of the lawmakers expressed discontent with the budget allocation in various sectors such as youth and sports, women and children, senior citizens, economic and cooperative development under the Ministry of Finance’s planning.

Representative Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News shared his opinion on the matter. He emphasized the importance of lawmakers actively participating in the budget planning process to address the concerns raised by the public regarding development expectations. He highlighted the need for a balanced approach by the government in budget allocation to meet the citizens’ development aspirations.

Furthermore, lawmakers like Vasudev Ghimire from the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) stressed the importance of public involvement in development planning. He urged for a more inclusive approach where lawmakers play a crucial role in policy development rather than being limited to a specific policy area.

In response to the budget disparities, Member of Parliament Maina Karki from the Nepali Congress raised concerns about the lack of priority given to Jajarkot district in the budget. She emphasized the importance of addressing the specific needs of each region to ensure equitable development allocation.

In a similar vein, lawmaker Dev Prasad Timilsena criticized the trend of confined budget allocation to certain areas, calling for a more just distribution of resources. He highlighted the necessity for immediate amendments to ensure fairness in budget allocation.

Representative Prabhu Hazaral from the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) stressed the need for financial federalism in development implementation. He called for closer monitoring of development initiatives in Madhes, particularly focusing on infrastructure improvements and healthcare facilities.

On a different note, lawmaker Purna Bahadur Gharti from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) mentioned the outdated nature of the budget planning process, which he believes hinders the progress of the federal system. He advocated for a more proactive approach to budget planning to accelerate developmental initiatives.

In a bid to ensure fairness in budget allocation, Congress MP Sunil Kumar Sharma suggested a more comprehensive approach to address the concerns of marginalized sectors. He called for a review of budgetary allocations to cater to the diverse needs of various communities.
