In Chitwan, security personnel at the Chitwan National Park are under scrutiny for the alleged killing of an elephant named Makuna, a move that has sparked outrage among animal rights activists. The incident has drawn attention and condemnation from various groups and individuals, including the Animal Welfare Society of Nepal.
The National Animal Welfare and Wildlife Conservation Department held a protest outside the Babarmahal office in Kathmandu on Thursday. The protest, led by the Animal Welfare Society of Nepal, demanded action against those responsible for the killing of Makuna. The society accuses the security personnel of shooting and killing the elephant under the guise of protection, an allegation that has stirred emotions and calls for justice.
During the demonstration, participants, including representatives from the National Animal Welfare and Wildlife Conservation Department, displayed banners and placards calling for justice for Makuna and other innocent animals who have fallen victim in the name of conservation efforts. The incident has reignited the debate on the methods used in wildlife protection and the boundaries between safeguarding animals and resorting to lethal means.
In response to the news, Ramesh Khatri, the representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to Makuna’s death. Khatri highlighted the importance of upholding ethical standards in wildlife conservation and urged authorities to ensure accountability and transparency in such cases to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
