A 28-year-old woman named Chini Maya Limbu, who was a fugitive in a human trafficking and smuggling case, was recently apprehended by the police in Ilam Mai Municipality-7, Kathmandu. She had been on the run after being sentenced to a 10-year prison term and fined Rs. 50,000 by the Kathmandu District Court in the previous month of Mansir.
The authorities caught Limbu on Thursday on Dipjyoti Marg in Tokha Municipality-9, following a tip-off from the Human Trafficking Bureau in Babarmahal. The court had issued orders for her imprisonment at the Central Jail in Jagannathdeval, Kathmandu, for the enforcement of the sentence.
This arrest sheds light on the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and smuggling in Nepal. Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, stated, “This arrest demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to bringing perpetrators of such crimes to justice, sending a strong message that such illegal activities will not be tolerated.”
