In a recent match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, Nepal faced a defeat against Malaysia in the third round of the competition. The game, held at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Tuesday, saw Malaysia emerging victorious with a 2-0 goal difference against Nepal. Hector Hevel scored the first goal for Malaysia in the 29th minute, giving them an early lead. Later, in the 71st minute, Malaysia’s Corbin-Angel doubled the lead with another goal. Despite efforts, Nepal was unable to score, resulting in a 2-0 win for Malaysia.

This edition of the qualifiers has divided 24 teams from Asia into groups, with Nepal placed in Group F. Alongside Nepal, Group F consists of Malaysia, Vietnam, and Laos. Following the round-robin format, the top team from each group will advance to the Asian Cup after the qualifiers.

Despite the match being held in Nepal, the Asian Football Confederation did not grant Dasarath Rangasala Stadium the approval to host the game, leading to it being played in Malaysia instead.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: “The defeat against Malaysia in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers is a setback for Nepal’s football team. It is essential for the team to regroup and focus on their upcoming matches to secure a spot in the Asian Cup.”
