A tragic incident has unfolded in Nigeria, where a terrorist attack has resulted in the death of at least 44 civilians. The attack, described as ‘barbaric,’ took place in a mosque in the rural town of Kokorok through a phone detonation. Along with the fatalities, 13 individuals were reported to have sustained injuries during the assault, which occurred during prayer time at midday, according to the Nigerian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The assailants not only targeted the mosque but also set fire to local markets and homes, as confirmed by the ministry. The government has pledged to track down the perpetrators and hold them accountable for their actions.
According to the ministry, the Islamic State group and affiliated organizations have been active in the region near the borders of Burkina Faso and Mali, where the attack took place. This incident adds to the ongoing violence and instability in the area.
