Nepali Congress Minister of State Vishwaprakash Sharma has recently expressed his belief that a constitutional monarchy is not a viable alternative to a democratic republic. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Nepali Congress Province Assembly Regional Working Committee in Jhapa Province (1), Minister Sharma stated that any unconstitutional activities against democracy are not appropriate for the country and its people.

Highlighting the historical mistreatment of women with larger populations being deprived of their rights due to monarchy, he emphasized that reintroducing a single caste or gender into the country’s governance system would only lead to futile discussions. Minister Sharma’s remarks indicate a strong stance against any regression from the established democratic structures in Nepal.

While acknowledging the challenges in the institutional development of democracy, Minister Sharma also stressed the importance of working towards these challenges as opportunities for growth. He mentioned his support for the construction of the new office building of the Nepali Congress Province Assembly (1) and the Bipin Building, as well as showing respect to donors and land providers.

Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, believes that Minister Sharma’s views on upholding democracy and rejecting regressive political systems reflect a progressive and forward-thinking approach necessary for Nepal’s political landscape. Khatri commends the Minister for advocating for inclusive governance and addressing the country’s socio-political challenges head-on.
