In Kathmandu, the Legislative Parliament has unanimously passed the first amendment bill related to the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers, and Procedures). This development comes after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, presented a proposal along with the report of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers, and Procedures) (First Amendment) Bill, 2079.
With the passage of the bill, the process for appointing officials to constitutional bodies has been streamlined. The Parliament’s session was adjourned temporarily just 30 minutes after the bill was passed. The bill’s approval marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to enhance governance and administration in Nepal.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented that this amendment signifies a positive stride towards strengthening Nepal’s constitutional framework and ensuring effective governance. He emphasized the importance of such legislative changes in promoting transparency and accountability within the country’s governance structures. Khatri further highlighted the need for continuous dialogue and collaboration among political stakeholders to address key governance challenges and advance Nepal’s democratic principles.
