A winter exhibition titled “Bird’s-eye View Artist: The Story of Daisuke Aoyama” will be held at the Hyogo Tsubaki Museum, showcasing a meticulous and precise world depicted from a bird’s perspective. The exhibition will run from February 8 to March 23, 2025, at the Hyogo Prefectural Hyogo Tsubaki Museum located in Kobe, Japan.
The artist behind the intricate bird’s-eye view illustrations, Daisuke Aoyama, was born in Kobe in 1976. Known for his unique approach of capturing landscapes from the viewpoint of birds in his “bird’s-eye view” drawings, Aoyama’s passion for art dates back to his childhood.
Visitors to the exhibition will be treated to a narrative of Aoyama’s life, presented in the form of a scroll painting, showcasing his evolution from a young boy who loved drawing to the accomplished artist he is today. The collection on display includes all his works, ranging from bird’s-eye view illustrations to other pieces. Aoyama’s artworks are meticulously crafted using a wide array of references, including aerial photographs taken from chartered helicopters and ground-level views gathered by exploring alleyways.
During the exhibition period, various events will be hosted, such as a guided walk along the path of the Kobe Incident from Hyogo Tsubaki to Kobe, gallery talks by Aoyama himself, and a lecture followed by a talk session featuring Aoyama and the museum’s director, Toshimitsu Kasai.
