In Kathmandu, a general discussion on the budget has commenced amidst opposition and uproar in the legislative assembly. The majority of seats on the opposition side remain unoccupied due to protests led by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Raswapa), while members of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Raprapa) have walked out of the session in protest, leaving a significant number of chairs empty on their side.
Notably, there is a lack of significant participation from ruling party members. In today’s meeting, Finance Minister Vishnu Paudel proposed initiating a general discussion on the budget, to which the lawmakers have expressed differing opinions.
The absence of ruling party members has been conspicuous during these discussions. The Finance Minister’s proposal to start a general budget discussion has not received unanimous agreement, indicating varying viewpoints among the lawmakers.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, stated that the ongoing disruptions in the legislative assembly are hindering the productive exchange of ideas and discussions on crucial matters such as the national budget. He emphasized the importance of all parties engaging constructively to ensure the effective functioning of the legislative process and the advancement of the country.
