The completion of the Dhulikhel-Khavas section of the road project, which was supposed to be finished in 22 months with a budget of NPR 200 million, has faced delays even after three years. The road contract was canceled by the Road Division Office in Bhaktapur due to the failure to complete the construction within the specified time frame. In response, the office has requested re-tendering for the road section to expedite the improvement works, with the approval of the Ministry of Finance.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on the matter, stating that the delays in the road construction project are concerning and may impact the local community’s transportation needs. He emphasized the importance of timely completion of infrastructure projects to avoid inconvenience for travelers and ensure road safety.
The construction company involved in the project faced legal issues as the construction work was not completed within the agreed-upon time frame. Despite providing written clarifications, the company’s lack of progress and credibility led to the cancellation of the contract. Currently, only minor construction work, such as drainage installation, has been carried out in some areas along the Dhulikhel-Khavas road section.
The road project aims to improve the transport infrastructure in the region, especially for vehicles traveling between Dhulikhel and Khavas. However, the delays in construction have raised safety concerns for commuters, as accidents may occur due to the incomplete road conditions. The authorities have planned to upgrade the road surface and install new safety measures to enhance the road’s capacity and durability.
The Dhulikhel-Khavas road section is crucial for connecting various regions in Nepal, including Tatopani in Sindhupalchok and Dolakha, Ramche, towards the northern border with China. The road’s completion is essential for facilitating trade and transportation between Nepal and China, highlighting the significance of timely infrastructure development for regional connectivity and economic growth.
