In a tragic incident in Mahiyangana, a region in Uva Province, Sri Lanka, on Friday, a bus accident left 27 people injured, including 10 school children. The accident was reportedly caused by brake failure, according to initial investigations conducted by the authorities.

Among the injured are young school children of ages who were on their way to school. They have been taken to a local hospital for treatment, as confirmed by the police spokesperson, Buddhi Manatunga.

The Acting Police Chief, Priyantha Weerasuriya, has highlighted in a recent public report that a significant number of bus accidents in Sri Lanka are often due to mechanical and structural failures. This underscores the importance of ensuring the safety and maintenance of vehicles to prevent such tragic incidents.
