Campaign to Collect Signatures for Rasuwagadhi Propaganda and Political Gain: MP Thapa

The Chairman of the National Independent Party (RASWAPA), Ravi Lamichhane, is facing political retaliation, with allegations being made against him for the collection of signatures against him. Member of Parliament from Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre), Surya Thapa, has stated that the signature collection campaign against Chairman Lamichhane is in defiance of a court order.

During a parliamentary meeting on Monday, MP Thapa commented that the theatrical signature campaign, as per a petition from an individual currently in jail, goes against the court’s order. He also mentioned that actions contradicting the court’s order are taking place in the presence of those elected as Members of Parliament, who were elected to oversee such matters.

Regarding the situation, MP Thapa expressed, “There are more than half a dozen cases currently ongoing in the Supreme, High, and District Courts. It is particularly noteworthy when politics is being referred to as retaliation, and now there are signatures involved, which is especially significant in the political context.”

Thapa further elaborated that the signature campaign is seen as political propaganda and promotion. He highlighted an appeal of 15 pages issued in the name of an individual detained in Bhairahawa prison on the 7th of Asar, 2082. He emphasized that the ongoing signature campaign, along with the appeal, serves as a means of political propaganda, political promotion, and a scheme to secure personal interests.

MP Thapa also raised concerns regarding the recent court order from the Supreme Court, emphasizing that the court cannot change the order with signatures alone. He pointed out that the court should evaluate the number of signatures, along with the facts, evidence, arguments, comparisons, and facts, to make a decision based on the court’s order.

As per Kansai Nepal News representative Ramesh Khatri, this situation highlights the complex intersection of politics and legal matters, underscoring the need for a thorough examination of the legal implications of such actions.
