Chitwan: The district has recently started exporting locally produced carrots and radishes to foreign countries. A group of 15 farmers affiliated with the District Farmers Association began exporting carrots and radishes produced by them from Chaitra 4.

The chairman of the group that has started exporting carrots and radishes produced in Shreepur, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15, to Germany, Chandraprasad Adhikari, shared that they have already sent 84 tons of radishes for export, with 42 tons still remaining. The farmers associated with the group have started the export of carrots and radishes grown in a 14-acre area, as informed by Adhikari.

According to officials, agricultural carrots and radishes produced here have been sent for foreign exports for the past three years. Adhikari mentioned, “Initially, only my produce was sent abroad. Now, the production of fellow farmers is also being exported.”

Preparations are underway to send carrots for export after sending radishes initially, as mentioned by Chairman Adhikari. They plan to export 150 tons of carrots. The local production is being exported by an organization named The Organic Valley, which brings the produce for foreign exports. Once the scientists from Germany have verified the land, the local production is allowed for export.

The 20-acre area here has been recognized as an agricultural area in the region. As per the member of the group who sends carrots to Germany at the rate of NRs 20 per kilogram and radishes at NRs 50, Chabilal Nyupane, 15 farmers affiliated with the group have started exporting carrots and radishes to Germany, boosting enthusiasm among farmers about agricultural production exports.

Nyupane mentioned, “Apart from carrots and radishes in the area where organic farming is practiced, crops such as wheat, barley, maize, pulses, potatoes, and various vegetables are being grown.” He also stated that agricultural products produced here are being sold in districts such as Chitwan, Pokhara, Kathmandu, among others, along with foreign sales.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: The initiation of exporting locally produced carrots and radishes is a positive step towards promoting agricultural products in the international market. This move not only benefits the farmers directly involved but also has the potential to boost the overall agricultural sector in the region. The focus on organic farming practices and the expansion of export markets reflect a promising future for the agricultural industry in the area.
