Charged with deceiving a victim by promising lucrative job opportunities abroad, Ranjan Paudel, a 30-year-old resident of Chandragiri Municipality-7 in Tanahun and now residing in Byas Municipality-12, was apprehended by the police on Sunday. The arrest was made based on the complaint filed by a victim who alleged that Paudel had taken NPR 7,550,000 from them under the pretext of sending them to the United States for employment.
According to the victim’s statement, Paudel had assured them of sending them to the US for work, prompting the victim to hand over the said amount. The victim, upon realizing that they had been duped when the promised opportunity did not materialize, filed a complaint at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Teku, under the Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4.
Following the complaint, the police took Paudel into custody and have transferred him to the District Police Office in Kathmandu for further investigation and legal action.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over the rising cases of fraud related to foreign employment in Nepal. “It is disheartening to see individuals taking advantage of people’s aspirations for better opportunities abroad. Such incidents not only harm the victims financially but also tarnish the reputation of the foreign employment sector,” Khatri stated.
