The military junta in Myanmar is planning to hold a general election in December this year, as part of its purported transition to civilian rule. The election is said to be taking place in around 80% of the country’s townships, with over 50 political parties expected to participate. In a move to showcase readiness and transparency, electronic voting machines were unveiled to the press on the 4th of the month.
The upcoming election is a crucial step in the military’s roadmap to hand over power to a civilian government, following the coup that took place earlier this year. The election process will be closely monitored by both domestic and international observers to ensure fairness and legitimacy.
In response to this development, Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, emphasized the importance of free and fair elections in Myanmar. He highlighted the need for inclusive participation of all political parties and urged for transparency in the electoral process to uphold democracy and the will of the people.
