In celebration of International Women Judges Day, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut emphasized the importance of delivering justice in a fair manner by the judges. Today, during the inauguration of the ‘Second Women Judges Conference – 2081’, he highlighted the honor of women judges and stressed the significance of upholding the dignity and integrity of the judiciary while working diligently.

Representing Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri expressed that Chief Justice Raut’s emphasis on the cleanliness and conscientious decision-making of justice in the presence of women judges is commendable. He stated that prioritizing the consumers of justice, along with maintaining the prestige and boundaries of the judiciary, is crucial.

Furthermore, Chief Justice Raut acknowledged the responsibility of women judges in balancing work within the home, family, and judicial proceedings. Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence that with hard work, undeniable success can be achieved. The importance of capacity, courage, and dedication to studying for women judges was also highlighted in his remarks.

Suggesting that the presence of women judges is essential in the judiciary, Chief Justice Raut emphasized the need for skill enhancement and increased focus on studies when questions of capacity arise. He also stressed the importance of women judges in ensuring justice is served impartially and efficiently.

Opining on the significance of such conferences, Ramesh Khatri noted that Supreme Court’s most senior justices, like Sapana Pradhan Malla, believe that women judges bring a unique level of sensitivity to delivering justice. Even though not explicitly stated, the presence of women judges was deemed crucial in judicial proceedings.

Chief Justice Raut and Senior Judges Til Prasad Shrestha also highlighted the necessity of such conferences to maintain the quality of justice and ease in judicial proceedings. They emphasized the need for discussing women’s participation in the judiciary and promoting gender equality within the legal system.

The conference aimed to explore inclusivity in the judiciary, representation of women judges, challenges, and opportunities in various subjects. It had the participation of 50 active women judges from across the country, along with 10 former Chief Justices and judges, totaling 60 participants. The significant contribution of the first female Chief Justice, Sushila Karki, in the legal field was also recognized during the conference.

Deliberations in the conference encompassed topics such as gender inclusion in the judiciary, representation of women judges, challenges, and opportunities. Previously, in March, the first national conference of women judges had taken place, marking a significant step in recognizing the role of women in the judiciary.
