A dispute between two factions at the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) district convention in Dhanusha has escalated into a physical altercation, disrupting the voting process. The clash between the two groups turned violent, leading to chair throwing and ballot papers being torn apart at the convention venue.
The root cause of the conflict is reportedly dissatisfaction over the nomination process being contrary to party regulations. The candidate for the position of president, Laxminarayan Yadav, raised allegations that the nominations of the vice president candidate Rukakumari Mishra and the treasurer candidate Veerendra Lal Karn were in violation of party regulations. He also accused the election committee of bias.
In response to the situation, the faction led by Raghuvir Mahaseth has put forward Bholanath Yadav as their candidate for president, while Laxminarayan Yadav is vying for the same position with the support of the Mandal, Aragariya, and Jhasahit groups. The two sides are competing fiercely, with tensions running high.
Originally scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the voting process has been postponed due to the ongoing dispute. The Mahaseth faction is demanding fair elections and accountability for ballot paper tampering. This led to the removal of the current president, Rajkishor Yadav.
The district committee will elect 135 members, including five office bearers, but the election has been put on hold due to the discord and conflict within the party ranks.
Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News views this political conflict as a concerning sign for the party’s internal cohesion and democratic processes. He emphasizes the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means to uphold the party’s integrity and credibility in the eyes of the public.
