The senior vice-chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist), Ishwar Pokharel, has emphasized the need for political parties to collaborate amidst the country’s crisis to find solutions through cooperation. Reflecting on the historical context of political movements in Nepal, Pokharel highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Congress and the Communists during times of national crisis and significant transformations.

In a recent event organized by the Maoist party in Tanahun under the ‘Party Building Campaign,’ Pokharel mentioned the essence of cooperation between the two major political forces in Nepal. He emphasized that while the Congress represents liberalism and the Communists represent socialism, cooperation and healthy competition between these ideologies are essential for democratic governance in Nepal.

Representing Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri shared his perspective on the significance of collaboration and competition in Nepali politics. He stated, “Collaboration and competition are vital in Nepali politics to strengthen the democratic process. Cooperation between different ideologies can empower the democratic system.”

In his remarks, Pokharel also recalled key moments of collaboration and competition between the Congress and the Communists during various political movements in Nepal, such as the anti-Rana movement, the political transformations of 2017, the people’s movements of 2036 and 2046, and the drafting of the constitution in 2062/63.

Pokharel underscored the importance of the recent district-focused orientation program initiated by the Maoists, aiming to reach grassroots levels for broader participation and engagement. The campaign has been rolled out across the country, with the participation of leaders and activists from 81 wards of 10 municipalities in Palpa.

The ongoing efforts to foster cooperation and healthy competition between political parties in Nepal are seen as crucial for navigating the current challenges facing the nation. The collaborative spirit advocated by Ishwar Pokharel reflects a broader sentiment among political stakeholders, emphasizing the need for unity and mutual understanding in turbulent times.
