Kathmandu: Communication and Information Technology Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has expressed his views on the federal democratic republican system, stating that there is no need to search for a king in the system.

During a program organized by the Nepal Chepang Federation on Thursday, Minister Gurung commented that seeking a monarchy in the current context is futile. He highlighted the benefits of federalism in promoting social development, national unity, and reaping the full advantages of federalism for marginalized communities such as indigenous peoples and marginalized groups.

Representing Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri, noted that Minister Gurung emphasized the importance of a federal democratic republican system for indigenous communities. He added, “We are yet to fully benefit from the rights provided by this system.”

Minister Gurung stressed the inclusive and egalitarian nature of a society based on the foundation of national unity. He emphasized the need for a sensitive state in implementing inclusive policies for the protection of the Chepang community and advocated for policy reforms to ensure their welfare.

Geeta Paudel, a member of the National Planning Commission, suggested that the three levels of government should now transform the development structure and integrate an inclusive framework.

Ramesh Gurung, Vice-Chairman of the National Indigenous Upliftment Foundation, recommended that the government should make provisions for scholarships for technical education to benefit the Chepang community.

Gobindram Chepang, Chairman of the Federation, criticized the government for halting the People’s Development Program initiated by the state for the development of the Chepang community since 2034. He demanded a budget allocation by the state for the development of the Chepang community.

Ramesh Khatri, from Kansai Nepal News, believes that Minister Gurung’s remarks reflect a progressive stance towards embracing federalism and promoting the welfare of marginalized communities in Nepal.
