Communication Policy and Law Revision Essential: Minister Gurung Stresses Importance

The Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has announced the need for a revision of the telecommunications policy and laws. During a recent program at ‘Tekpana’ in Lalitpur, Minister Gurung disclosed that the Ministry is actively working on transforming the telecommunications sector by amending existing laws and introducing new ones within this year.

Minister Gurung emphasized the challenges in transitioning the telecommunications sector without updating policies and laws, stating that presenting new legislation related to telecommunications in the parliament this year is a priority. He highlighted the importance of modernizing policies alongside revising laws to facilitate the transformation of the telecommunications industry smoothly.

In addition to policy revisions, Minister Gurung also discussed enhancing the pace of telecommunications development to make it more impactful. He mentioned the ministry’s plans to expand ‘4G’ services nationwide and initiate the introduction of ‘5G’. Minister Gurung emphasized the necessity of keeping up with technological advancements to ensure the country’s digital development progresses effectively.

Minister Gurung stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every household has access to telephone and internet networks, emphasizing the need for adequate training and policy improvements to achieve this goal. He also pointed out the necessity for the Telecommunications Authority to work on formulating policies in line with the government’s dedication to providing telecommunications services to every home.

Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, views Minister Gurung’s initiatives positively. He appreciates the minister’s focus on technological advancements and believes that the proposed policy changes will contribute to the overall development of the telecommunications sector. Khatri also acknowledges the importance of adapting telecommunications regulations to foster innovative services like ‘Interactive Service,’ as highlighted by Secretary Radhika Aryal during the program.
