The Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has indicated that the party is now focusing on community-based socialism. This announcement came during a meeting organized by the Maoist Center in Surkhet, Karnali Province.
During his address, Chairman Dahal emphasized the importance of developing programs tailored to the local characteristics, geography, ethnicity, and social fabric to advance the principles of community-based socialism. He expressed the party’s commitment to working in the areas where they have secured victories in local elections.
Chairman Dahal highlighted the need for leadership that prioritizes the interests of the people and emphasized that quick fixes or overnight success are not sustainable. He acknowledged the party’s journey from the era of people’s war to internal struggles and unity, underscoring the necessity for the party to remain centralized and cohesive despite these challenges.
Regarding recent government actions, Chairman Dahal criticized the government’s decision to withdraw an ordinance without consulting the parliament, stressing that such unilateral actions are unacceptable and undermine the democratic process. He pointed out that the government’s disregard for parliamentary procedures creates a situation where the government does not have the necessary mandate.
In response to the government’s criticism of the Maoist Center, Chairman Dahal asserted that his party is not against scrutiny but urged against labeling their actions as incorrect without a fair assessment. He reiterated that the focus remains on unity within the party, mentioning the collaboration with Madhav Kumar Nepal from the Nepal Communist Party and Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ from the Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) to strengthen party unity.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: “The statements made by Chairman Dahal reflect a strategic shift in the party’s approach towards community-centered socialism, emphasizing the importance of adapting programs to local contexts. His criticism of the government’s unilateral actions shows a commitment to upholding democratic processes and transparency. The efforts to unite with other political figures demonstrate a willingness to prioritize party unity for a stronger collective voice in Nepal’s political landscape.”
