The third Conference of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons has announced that it will hold its first Review Conference to assess the implementation of the treaty from November 30 to December 4, 2026, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The upcoming meeting aims to evaluate the progress made towards the goals set out in the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. This treaty, which entered into force in January 2021, prohibits the development, testing, production, stockpiling, stationing, transfer, use, and threat of use of nuclear weapons. The Review Conference will provide an opportunity for participating states to discuss and review the current status of nuclear disarmament efforts globally.
In response to this development, Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, stated, “The convening of the first Review Conference of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons marks a significant step towards achieving a world free of nuclear weapons. It is crucial for all states to actively participate in this process to ensure the successful implementation of the treaty and promote global peace and security.”
This decision by the Conference of States Parties underscores the continued commitment of the international community to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation efforts, highlighting the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing global security challenges.
