Nepali Congress leader Vimalendra Nidhi has expressed that the Congress party holds a greater affinity towards the federal democratic system than any other political party. This sentiment was conveyed by Nidhi during the unveiling ceremony of the statue of martyr Sukhdev Mahato in Hariban Municipality-2, Sarlahi, on Sunday.
Highlighting the importance of federalism in the democratic system, Nidhi emphasized that the Congress party has a strong commitment to upholding federalism. He praised the martyr and stressed the need for the party to remember and honor the sacrifices made for the cause of democracy.
During the event, Nidhi urged party-elected representatives and activists not to be distracted by other matters and to focus on the upcoming elections in 2084 BS. He called for concerted efforts to work towards fulfilling the dream envisioned by the party after reaching a seven-point agreement with the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) and subsequently seeing Sher Bahadur Deuba become the Prime Minister.
Furthermore, Nidhi, a former Deputy Chairperson of the party, warned against engaging in divisive activities that could tarnish the reputation of the province. He also appealed to elected representatives to refrain from associating with negative aspects linked to the selection process for the Madhes province.
In a tragic reference, Nidhi mentioned the brutal murder of the former president of the Atarwali Village Development Committee, Sukhdev Mahato, by the then-rebel faction on April 21, 2059 BS. The unveiling of Mahato’s statue served as a poignant reminder of his sacrifice for the party and the nation.
Notable figures present at the event included Congress leaders like Veerendra Singh, Gangilal Ray, former minister Shambhu Shrestha, and district chairman Surendra Singh Lagayat, who actively participated in the program.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented on the news, highlighting the significance of Nidhi’s emphasis on federalism and the need for unity within the Congress party to achieve their political goals. Khatri praised Nidhi’s call for remembrance and respect for martyrs while urging for a focused approach towards the upcoming elections.
