Nepali Congress leader Vimalendra Nidhi has urged to not obstruct the construction of the memorial of the late Ram Narayan Mishra, who made significant contributions in the political and social sectors. During a conversation with journalists in Janakpur Dham on Friday, Nidhi recalled the struggles for the end of autocratic rule and the establishment of democracy led by Mishra, emphasizing the importance of not hindering the construction of his memorial.

The construction work of Mishra’s memorial in the Dil area towards the east of Gangasagar Pokhari in Janakpur Dham has faced opposition from some locals as the land for the memorial belongs to the Mishra family. Nidhi appealed to not impede the work in any circumstances, highlighting the legacy of Mishra in the area.

Nepali Congress leader Prful Raj Ghimire also joined in urging everyone to not engage in wrong politics regarding the construction of Mishra’s memorial and to appreciate his contributions. Mishra, who was elected in the 2015 elections from the former Mahottari district, served as the Minister of Industry in the first democratically elected government under the leadership of BP Koirala.

After the implementation of the Panchayat system by King Mahendra in 2017 BS, Mishra was also imprisoned for a long time. He passed away on 6th Poush, 2027 BS. The site designated for the construction of the memorial now observes his death anniversary each year.

In the current location earmarked for the construction, the Janakpur Dham Sub-Metropolitan City has increased the budget allocation and progressed with the planning to carry out the construction work. Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah stated that preparations are underway to commemorate Mishra’s contributions through the construction of the memorial.
