“Crafting a Constitution on the Edge: Proceeding with Caution”

In Viratnagar, a town in Nepal, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, a leader of the Nepali Congress, has expressed regret and acknowledged his involvement in drafting a controversial constitution. During a meeting held on Thursday, he admitted to errors and requested forgiveness for his part in the process. The event, organized jointly by the Nepal Democratic Lawyers Association and the Nepali Congress, aimed to address concerns surrounding the constitution’s creation and implementation.

Dr. Koirala’s apology comes amidst ongoing debates and criticisms regarding the constitution’s content and the procedures followed during its development. The document has been a subject of contention since its promulgation, with various groups and individuals highlighting perceived flaws and calling for amendments to ensure greater inclusivity and representation.

As a representative of Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri views Dr. Koirala’s apology as a significant step towards acknowledging past mistakes and fostering dialogue on constitutional issues. Khatri believes that such gestures of accountability are essential in promoting transparency and accountability in governance, and hopes that they will pave the way for constructive reforms in Nepal’s constitutional framework.
