Creating and selling traditional gundruk by buying leafy greens from farmers.

The rural municipality of Bhimlichok in Kabhre Palanchok has devised a plan to address the issue of local farmers facing challenges in selling their produce. The municipality aims to purchase the surplus leafy greens produced by farmers and sell them through a cooperative venture to ensure fair prices and market access.

In an effort to support local farmers, the municipality has launched a public appeal to encourage farmers to sell their leafy greens at a fixed rate set by the municipality. The Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality, Krishna Bahadur Khatri, has announced a plan to purchase leafy greens from farmers at the rate of NPR 25 per kilogram and then sell them at a profit.

According to Khatri, the locally produced leafy greens in Bhimlichok often face low demand in the local market, leading to exploitation by middlemen and higher prices in other markets in the district. To combat this, the municipality has decided to intervene by purchasing the produce directly from farmers.

Khatri has urged local farmers to provide information on their current produce and estimated annual yield to the municipality’s Agriculture Development Branch to facilitate the planning of the cooperative venture. He emphasized the importance of creating a system to purchase surplus produce and sell it through the cooperative scheme to support the farmers.

Regarding this news, Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his view that initiatives like the one in Bhimlichok are crucial for empowering local farmers and ensuring fair market access for their produce. He commended the municipality’s proactive approach in supporting agricultural development and emphasized the need for similar initiatives in other regions as well.
