In Kathmandu, the deadline set by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli for the installation of floodlights in the stadium is approaching, but there have been issues arising in the construction agreement. Despite the deadline given by Prime Minister Oli expiring within the next week, there have been setbacks in the construction agreement.

The process of finalizing the agreement to start construction by the end of the month of Falgun has been delayed. The Ministry of Urban Development had prepared a detailed project report (DPR) and issued a tender notice on Poush 5 for bidding. The tender awarded construction approval to one company for floodlights and two companies for the construction of a perimeter wall.

For the installation of floodlights, Vision Ishwori Joint Venture in Lalitpur was awarded the contract for 42 crores, 19 lakh, 91 thousand, 653 Nepalese Rupees. However, even after the approval, there is no official agreement between the Ministry of Urban Development and the Federal Secretary’s Office of Construction and Management. Without this agreement, progress on the installation of floodlights has been stalled. The delay in the agreement raises doubts about fulfilling the Prime Minister’s directive to complete the construction within 300 days.

Engineer Kanth, from the Federal Secretary’s Office of Construction and Management, mentioned that the work should be completed by the end of Falgun 26. The construction company was informed through a letter dated Falgun 12 for the completion of the floodlight installation by Baisakh 24.

Although there have been delays in the agreement, Kanth asserts that the floodlight and perimeter wall construction will be completed on time. He explained that work would be divided into three shifts, ensuring the timely completion of the project. Despite the cancellation of two previous tenders for floodlight and perimeter wall construction due to delays, the floodlight installation at the ExtraTech Oval Cricket Ground in Rupandehi has been completed with private investment.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented that the public has been criticizing the government’s delays on social media. He emphasized the importance of adhering to international standards for lighting in sports facilities and highlighted the need for the government to focus on meeting these standards to avoid potential issues with international cricket matches. Khatri also pointed out the significance of completing the floodlight project according to international standards to maintain credibility at the global level.
