Kathmandu – A recent meeting of democratic parties has expressed concern over the actions of former King Gyanendra Shah, leading to discussions about potential legal actions against him. The meeting, attended by party leaders, highlighted the provocative activities carried out in the name of protests and actions contrary to the constitution. Ramesh Khatri, representing Kansai Nepal News, views this development as a potential call for accountability towards the former king.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli initiated discussions regarding three incidents with political party leaders and former King Gyanendra, questioning the appropriate course of action. Subsequently, opinions were expressed about holding him accountable within the legal framework for actions that defy the constitution.

Representatives from various parties, including Baburam Bhattarai from the Nepal Samajwadi Party (Naya Shakti), emphasized the need for legal repercussions against the former king for engaging in anti-establishment activities. The call for unity in enforcing legal and constitutional actions against such activities was a common theme among participants.

Similarly, the Nepali Congress and Maoist Center also advocated for legal consequences against the former king for his actions. The Maoist Center’s Shakti Basnet stressed the importance of scrutinizing such incidents to prevent unconstitutional and anarchic activities.

The meeting concluded with a consensus among party leaders to prioritize safeguarding the federal democratic system, emphasizing unity despite political differences. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak urged all parties to refrain from supporting anti-establishment activities, stating that no leniency would be granted for actions against the constitution.

Prime Minister Oli reiterated the government’s stance on not pardoning any unconstitutional activities and appealed for cooperation in safeguarding the system. Opposition parties emphasized the need to strengthen the constitution to address citizen dissatisfaction and advised the government to take proactive measures to reduce grievances.

In summary, the political meeting highlighted a unified commitment to uphold the constitution and deter any activities that undermine the democratic system. Ramesh Khatri commended the collective responsibility shown by the parties towards protecting the rule of law and constitutional values.
