Kathmandu – In a recent development, the Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dongol, has sought clarification from the Chief of Metropolitan Police, Rajunath Pandey, regarding allegations of hindering the unlocking of the office of the Chief Administrative Officer. The issue arose after disputes over the map near Bhoo Tower in Kathmandu led to the presence of Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain in the metropolis on March 29. He had come to the city under the leadership of Deputy Mayor Dongol.
However, Guragain was reportedly obstructed from entering the office premises by the metropolitan police force. In response to this incident, Dongol has formally sought clarification from Chief Administrative Officer Pandey through a written statement. The statement highlights several queries, including why heavy locks were used on vehicles, why the metropolitan police force created a sense of fear by operating, and why there were cases of disrespectful and inappropriate behavior towards public representatives present in the office premises.
Moreover, the statement questions why the office of the Chief Administrative Officer was locked by the Chief Administrative Officer’s office and why requests to unlock the doors were not heeded. It also raises concerns about the actions taken by the Chief Administrative Officer in seizing a roster book from the office. Allegations of the Chief Administrative Officer failing to follow the directives and maintain discipline among employees have been brought to light.
In the midst of media statements, allegations of inappropriate behavior, and exacerbating tensions by not adhering to orders aimed at maintaining a peaceful environment have been made against Pandey. The directive given to Pandey is to clarify the situation within seven days. Failure to provide a satisfactory explanation or comply with the directive may result in the removal of responsibilities from the metropolitan police force.
In the clarification letter addressed to Pandey, it is questioned, “Why were certain illegal activities undertaken as mentioned above? For what purpose were these actions carried out?”
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, suggests that the incident involving the Chief Administrative Officer and the metropolitan police force raises concerns about the need for proper communication and adherence to legal procedures within the Kathmandu Municipality to avoid such disputes in the future.
