Spanning across Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in Central Asia, the Aral Sea was once a vast and thriving lake. However, over the years, it has significantly shrunk to about one-tenth of its original size. The main cause of this environmental catastrophe has been attributed to government policies, leading to what is now considered a man-made disaster.
The shrinking of the Aral Sea has had devastating consequences on the local communities that depend on it for their livelihoods. The once fertile lands surrounding the sea have turned into barren deserts, causing economic hardship and health issues for the residents.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed deep concern over the situation, emphasizing the need for urgent action to address the environmental degradation of the Aral Sea. He highlighted the importance of international cooperation and sustainable policies to restore the lake to its former glory and support the communities that rely on it.
