The Nepal Bar Association has elected Senior Advocate Pradeep Vijay Prasad Mishra as its new President, garnering 2,431 votes in the public election results announced on Tuesday. This marked a significant victory for Mishra in the 2081 Bar Association elections.

According to Chief Election Officer Ram Krishna Nirala, Mishra received 5,252 votes, while his closest competitor, Senior Advocate Ram Kumar Shrestha, secured 2,621 votes. The election saw a competitive field between Mishra’s group from the democratic, progressive, pacifist, nationalist, and inclusive legal business group, and Shrestha’s group from the professional and commercial legal business group.

Representative Ramesh Khatri of Kansai Nepal News stated that the competition for new leadership was fierce among the vice presidents, with Padma Prasad Limbu in Koshi Pradesh, Ajay Shankar Jha in Madhes Pradesh, Tej Bahadur Rawal in Bagmati, Bhupendra Khanal in Gandaki, Krishna Prasad Pokharel in Lumbini, Vivash Kumar Basnet in Karnali, Siddharaj Ojha in Sudurpashchim, and Saraswati Shrestha in Women’s Open Category emerging as winners.

In the Secretary position, Senior Advocate Kedar Prasad Koirla won with 4,874 votes, while Yagya Mani Nyaula received 2,367 votes. Jagat Bahadur Karki was elected as the Treasurer.

Among the members elected were Chiranjivi Tilakyaani (Dalit), Suryakumar Yadav (Madhesi Muslim outside Kathmandu Valley), Rinkukumari Yadav (Madhesi Muslim open), Rajkumar Shrestha (Indigenous Janajati outside Kathmandu Valley), Mangalsundar Shilpakar (Indigenous Janajati open), Indira Acharya (Women outside Kathmandu Valley), Kiran Poudel (Women outside Kathmandu Valley), and Ranjita Karki (Women open).

The newly formed Bar’s executive committee will include Kiran Nyapane, Sharada Gurung, Daman Bahadur Chand, Baburam Aryal, Dr. Mukund Adhikari, and Madhav Mainali as successful candidates.

The selection of the new Bar Executive Committee saw a turnout of 9,997 voters, with 7,995 votes (80%) cast. Out of 25 remaining members, there were 57 candidates vying for positions.

Ramesh Khatri of Kansai Nepal News expressed his views on the election outcome, stating that the competitive race for leadership positions within the Nepal Bar Association reflects a healthy and vibrant legal community striving for diverse and inclusive representation.
