Kathmandu: Following the events of Chait 15, the security forces have successfully apprehended Rakesh Prasai, brother of the fugitive Rajavadi Campaign Commander Durga Prasai, who had been on the run. The District Police Office in Kathmandu confirmed that Rakesh has been taken into custody.

According to SP and spokesperson of the District Police Office in Kathmandu, Raj Bohora, Rakesh was brought to the police station for questioning. The police took control of Rakesh on Monday.

It is alleged that during the demonstration, senior members of the RAPRAPA party, including Vice President Ravindra Mishra, Minister and Member of Parliament Dhawal Shamsher Rana, and around 100 others, were arrested for engaging in violent activities, vandalism, and inciting unrest.

Durga Prasai, the main commander of the Rajavadi movement, has been on the run since the day of the violent demonstration. Although there were efforts to locate him by the police, his whereabouts remain unknown to the public. There are concerns that he may have fled to India upon evading capture.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Party has announced plans to launch another movement on Chait 26. RAPRAPA Chairman Rajendra Lingden has stated that preparations for the upcoming protest are being made to ensure it concludes peacefully.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri of Kansai Nepal News: “The recent events involving the arrest of individuals linked to the Rajavadi Campaign highlight the ongoing tensions within the political landscape of Nepal. It is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize dialogue and peaceful means of resolving conflicts to prevent further escalation of violence.”
