The Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Raghujee Pant, has announced preparations to introduce the School Education Bill in line with the agreement reached with the Nepal Teachers Association.
During a meeting of the Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee on Monday, Minister Pant requested additional time to implement the agreement reached with the teachers. Although preparations were underway to pass the bill after it was approved in the meeting, Minister Pant indicated that some issues still needed to be addressed, hence the request for more time. The Committee Chairman, Amar Bahadur Thapa, then decided to postpone the meeting.
Representing Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri shared his opinion on the matter. “As a representative of the news agency, it is imperative for the Minister to consider all aspects before passing the bill. It is essential to ensure that the legislation is thoroughly reviewed and matured before its approval,” Khatri emphasized.
Furthermore, prominent Nepali Congress leader Shyam Ghimire expressed the need to release the bill based on consensus, suggesting that more time might be required for the bill to be passed by the Committee. Discussions are ongoing to address pending issues within the bill.
Despite relentless efforts by committee member Chhabilal Vishwakarma to prepare the bill, further discussions were deemed necessary due to unresolved issues. However, it was emphasized that delays in reaching a consensus on certain matters would not be tolerated.
Members of the committee had planned to deliberate overnight and finalize the bill for passage, demonstrating a commitment to passing the legislation promptly. Suman Shrestha highlighted the urgency of enacting laws and urged for the bill’s swift approval.
Prabhu Hazarala stressed the importance of prioritizing the Education Bill over administrative laws, emphasizing the need to avoid obstructing the legislation based on personal preferences. Despite challenges, the committee members were dedicated to ensuring the bill’s passage.
In conclusion, Ishwari Ghartimagar emphasized the need for expedited action in passing the bill, highlighting the importance of promptly advancing the legislation in the interest of educational development. The Committee Chairman, Thapa, underscored the government’s commitment to swiftly passing the bill to propel educational reforms forward.
