The Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Raghujee Pant, has announced that discussions on the Education Bill are in their final stages, indicating that the law will be introduced soon. Speaking at the second summit of the Principal Association of Nepal (PAN) in Pokhara on Friday, he mentioned that preparations are underway to enact the Education Act by the upcoming month of Saun.
Minister Pant emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Teacher’s Association to pass the Education Bill. He highlighted that close discussions and dialogue with the Ministry of Education and the association are essential to move forward. He expressed confidence that cooperating with the association is crucial for the rapid development of the education sector if an excellent education act is implemented.
Regarding the budget allocation for the education sector in the upcoming fiscal year, Minister Pant acknowledged that adjusting the budget to meet the needs of educational development could pose challenges. He noted that compared to foreign countries, Nepal allocates a lower budget for the education sector, which could hinder overall development. He foresaw potential difficulties in advancing education sector development if budget cuts are made in the upcoming fiscal year.
Minister Pant stressed the importance of incorporating new teaching methods and practical education in the curriculum to enhance the quality of education. He urged all teachers to focus on providing quality education and integrating practical teaching methods. He also mentioned the need to prepare primary-level teachers for redeployment to secondary and higher secondary levels due to an increasing number of qualified teachers.
The Minister emphasized the necessity of teachers’ support to pass the Education Bill, stating that the Ministry of Education takes the concerns of the nine-point agreement with the Teacher’s Association seriously. Additionally, Amber Bahadur Thapa, the Chairman of the Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee, urged all teachers, including principals, to create an educational environment in schools to enhance educational standards.
Dr. Vidyanath Koirala, an educationist, called on teachers to utilize new teaching techniques and practices to make teaching more effective. He urged teachers to experiment with new methods and technologies in education to enhance the learning experience for students.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, believes that the upcoming changes in the education sector, as discussed by Minister Pant, are crucial for advancing education in Nepal. He commends the efforts to improve education quality and hopes that collaborative measures with stakeholders will lead to positive outcomes.
