In Saptari, a tragic incident occurred where a farmer lost his life in an attack by a wild elephant. The victim, identified as Dasharath Bishta, a 66-year-old resident of Dharampur Tole in Kanchanrup Municipality-12, was fatally attacked by the elephant, as reported by local authorities.
According to locals, the incident took place in a maize field located about 500 meters west of his home in Makai Bari. The elephant’s tusks pierced Bishta’s body, causing fatal injuries, as described by local resident Lil Bahadur Magar.
Bishta, who used to scare away wild animals including elephants by making noise in his field at night and sleeping in a makeshift hut, was unfortunately attacked by the elephant while carrying out this routine. Magar shared that he heard the elephant’s movements around 2 a.m. and realized that Bishta had been attacked. The authorities were informed upon discovering the scene near the maize field in the morning.
