Kathmandu – In celebration of World Intellectual Property Day, the President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Chandraprasad Dhakal, emphasized the role of the state in encouraging the registration of intellectual property. He highlighted the need for increased awareness and protection of intellectual property rights in Nepal.
Various government ministries and offices, including the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Department of Industry, and the Copyright Registrar’s Office, organized a program to mark the occasion. President Dhakal expressed concerns about the lack of sufficient knowledge about intellectual property and the challenges it poses for its protection.
Addressing issues related to trademarks, President Dhakal stressed the importance of resolving disputes and simplifying processes related to trademarks and patents. He emphasized the need for Nepal’s laws to provide adequate protection for intellectual property rights, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks. He believed that collaborative efforts in this regard would enhance public awareness and support for the protection of intellectual property.
In a statement, Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News expressed his opinion on the news, stating, “The initiatives to promote intellectual property rights are commendable and essential for the development of various sectors, including the entertainment industry.”
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) first celebrated World IP Day in 2001. WIPO assigns different themes each year to mark the occasion. This year, the theme is ‘IP and Music: The Beat of IP’.
