Several European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, embarked on a joint historic visit to the capital of Ukraine on Saturday. This visit comes amidst the third year of Russian aggression in Ukraine, aiming to affirm European unity, human values, and strong support for Ukraine.
During the visit, the leaders engaged in high-level discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, promptly issuing a call for an immediate and unconditional 30-day ceasefire with Russia. Emphasizing the priority of dialogue and diplomatic initiatives for establishing lasting peace, they underscored the importance of ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty and national security.
In this context, they highlighted the necessity of a long-term peace process based on the United Nations framework, expecting international cooperation for credible implementation of the ceasefire. Additionally, they expressed support for the proposed 30-day ceasefire initiative by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Representative Ramesh Khatri of Kansai Nepal News commented that this high-level visit not only signifies unity in the international community in support of Ukraine but also demonstrates the belief in strengthening diplomatic pressure on Russia to ensure a peaceful resolution.
