The National Sports Council (NSC) Secretary, Tank Lal Ghising, has revealed a significant increase in the budget for Nepali sports for the first time in history. The proposed budget presented by the government for the fiscal year 2082/83 has been described as encouraging for the sports sector in Nepal.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Sports Journalists Forum Gandaki in Pokhara, Secretary Ghising emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritize the sports sector in a positive manner. He expressed enthusiasm about the historical increase in the budget for sports and encouraged everyone to take it in a positive light.

Providing insights into the budget allocation, Secretary Ghising mentioned that priority has been given to the construction of a cricket ground within the Pokhara Stadium premises and for the overall development of infrastructure. He also highlighted that proposals have been made keeping in mind the age group of cricket for future World Cup events.

Furthermore, Secretary Ghising informed about budget planning for high-altitude sports fields and mentioned collaborative programs between provinces and the central government. He stated that proposals have been included in the budget for implementation through local bodies.

Despite the transfer of the 10th flag to Karnali during the closing ceremony of the new National Sports Festival in Pokhara, Secretary Ghising explained that due to various reasons, the event could not be declared a National Sports Festival. He also mentioned that budget planning has been done for the 10th National Sports Festival scheduled for the upcoming year.

He believes that equal understanding among the Nepal government, provincial governments, and all concerned authorities is crucial for the progress of Nepali sports and timely organization of sporting events.
