A colorful and vibrant display featuring Kobe-grown flowers will adorn various locations such as Sannomiya Station in Kobe. Known as the “City Color Garden,” this exhibition will showcase flowers from Kobe from February 3 to 14, with varying durations depending on the venue, including Sannomiya Station, Kobe City Hall, and Duo Kobe.
Since 2014, Kobe City has been showcasing seasonal Kobe-grown flowers at locations like Kobe City Hall, expanding to places like Kobe Airport and Duo Kobe. This initiative, known as the “City Color Garden,” aims to introduce the beauty of locally produced flowers and their origins to a wider audience, providing opportunities for more people to enjoy Kobe-grown flowers each season.
In celebration of the completion of renovation works at Sannomiya Station, a special decorative exhibition featuring Kobe Tulips from Kitaku Awakawa-cho and flower seedlings from Nishi Iwayadani-cho will be displayed at the east entrance of the station. Additionally, displays featuring Kobe Tulips, carnations from Nishi Iwayadani-cho, and other flowers will be available at Kobe City Hall and Duo Kobe.
In Kitaku Awakawa-cho, tulips are cultivated in greenhouses by producers from the Awakawa Tulip Association. By storing bulbs in refrigerators before planting them in warm greenhouses, they can be shipped earlier (from December to early April) than those grown outdoors. Only flowers meeting strict quality standards in terms of size, stem length, and absence of damage are shipped under the brand of “Kobe Tulip.”
In Nishi Iwayadani-cho, a variety of flower seedlings are cultivated throughout the year, receiving high praise in the Kansai flower market due to their robust root system, which results in excellent growth after planting. These seedlings are easily identifiable in flower shops and garden centers by their green pots. After the exhibition, the flowers will be donated to educational institutions in the city for planting and educational purposes.
The exhibition at Sannomiya Station (Grand Opening) will feature approximately 300 Kobe Tulips from Kitaku Awakawa-cho, around 100 locally grown cut flowers, and about 830 pots of flower seedlings from Nishi Iwayadani-cho. At Kobe City Hall and Duo Kobe, visitors can also enjoy displays of Kobe Tulips, carnations from Nishi Iwayadani-cho, and carnations from Iwao-cho and Hirano-cho in Nishi-ku.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented that the “City Color Garden” event in Kobe is a wonderful initiative that not only showcases the beauty of locally grown flowers but also promotes community engagement and appreciation for nature. He highlighted the significance of such events in fostering a sense of pride in local produce and enhancing the city’s aesthetics.
