Exploring Singapore’s Surbana Jurong Group’s Investment Expansion with the Prime Minister in Nepal

During a recent meeting with Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, a delegation led by the Executive Director of the Singapore-based investment institution Sarvna Jurong Group, Mr. Sin Chao, discussed expanding investments in various sectors of Nepal, including energy, tourism, railways, roads, smart cities, and expressways. The delegation expressed their interest in identifying projects, preparing proposals, and investing in Nepal’s infrastructure and urban development.

The Sarvna Jurong Group, a global investment agency under the ownership of the Singapore government, has recently established an office in Nepal to initiate operations. Prime Minister Oli, during the meeting at his residence in Baluwatar, emphasized Nepal’s goal of becoming a prosperous and happy nation, seeking collaboration and support from renowned international investors to facilitate and streamline investment processes in the country.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, views Prime Minister Oli’s emphasis on not just seeking development funds but also focusing on utilizing investments for development as a positive step towards making Nepal a developed nation. He acknowledges Oli’s commitment to eliminating corruption and prioritizing the country’s development and welfare, aligning with the aspirations of the Nepalese people. Khatri appreciates Oli’s invitation to global institutions to expand investments, emphasizing the need for legal and structural reforms to facilitate investment expansion, showing the government’s readiness to collaborate.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Sushil Gyawali, the CEO of the Investment Board Nepal, Su Min, the Administrative Chief of Sarvna Group, Sher Bahadur Tamang from the Central Urban Development Department of the CPN (UML), Abhinash Mishra, the South Asia Chief of Sarvna Group, and other prominent figures from Nepal, showcasing a collective effort towards fostering investment and development in the country.
