In Ribdikot Rural Municipality-1, Khya Village, a wildfire has broken out in the Madhuvan Community Forest and Ward No. 2’s community forest. Despite ongoing efforts to contain the fire since this afternoon, the situation remains out of control, as reported by the Ward Chairperson, Chiranjibi Pokharel of Ribdikot Rural Municipality-1, Khya.
Pokharel shared that the wildfire poses a risk to the neighboring communities of Gairigaun and Deurali if not brought under control promptly.
Due to the presence of dense forests in the area, the wildfire has taken on an intense form. Various teams including the Tanahun Municipality Fire Brigade, Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, National Park Security, Divisional Forest Office staff, local residents, and elected representatives have been mobilized to tackle the wildfire.
Approximately 10 hectares of forest land in two community forests have been affected by the wildfire, according to the Division Forest Office.
Opinion by Ramesh Khatri, Kansai Nepal News representative: The outbreak of wildfires in community forests is a concerning issue that not only poses a threat to the environment but also endangers nearby communities. It is crucial for authorities to coordinate effectively and take swift action to prevent such incidents and protect the forests and wildlife.
