Chitwan, Nepal – Farmers in Nepal are facing obstacles in using domestically produced hybrid maize seeds due to their unavailability in the market, prompting them to resort to foreign seeds. The National Maize Research Program in Rampur, Chitwan, organized a program focusing on the production and cultivation techniques of hybrid maize seeds. This initiative aimed to educate farmers on the benefits of using hybrid seeds and modern agricultural practices.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his concern regarding the reliance on foreign seeds by Nepali farmers. He emphasized the importance of promoting and supporting the use of locally produced hybrid seeds to enhance agricultural self-sufficiency in the country. Khatri highlighted the need for government intervention to ensure the availability and accessibility of quality hybrid seeds to farmers across Nepal.
