“Five-Year Teacher Evaluation in Single School”

In a significant move, Shuklaphanta Municipality has decided to rotate the teachers who have been teaching in the same community school for five years. This decision includes former head teachers, active teachers under the City Education Support Grant, teachers under the Relief Grant, and child development teachers. The Municipality has communicated that such rotations will also be implemented in other schools within the city area.

The process for teacher rotation requires educators to submit a request to the Municipality’s Education Department, indicating at least five schools in order of priority where they would prefer to be transferred. Ramesh Bahadur Air, coordinator of the organizing team, shared this information during the coordination and management meeting.

According to Air, a total of 63 municipal teachers, nine teachers under the federal grant, 72 permanent teachers at the primary level, 16 at the lower secondary level, and eight at the secondary level will undergo rotation. Additionally, 50 teachers from the upper secondary level, 23 from the primary level under the Relief Fund, 24 from the lower secondary level, eight from the former upper secondary level, and 65 child development teachers will also be part of this rotation.

Furthermore, the organizing team has suggested that even the non-teaching staff at the schools should be subject to rotation for effective management. Inputs from educational experts, retired officials from the pre-primary sector, school administration officials, teachers, among others, will be considered to finalize the report.

Previously, the organizing team had rotated 28 head teachers and coordinators, along with 24 subject-specific teachers in community schools. Four schools with low student numbers were merged, and two schools had their levels aligned. There are a total of 28 community schools in the city area.

Tikendra Raj Bhatt, Chief of the Education Department at the Municipality, highlighted that the municipal education sector will be integrated into the City Education Plan for the next ten years. He emphasized the importance of regular academic activities in schools and efforts to improve the examination system in a timely manner. “Efforts are being made to appoint permanent head teachers in the community schools operated under the Municipality for effective management,” Bhatt stated.

Ramesh Khatri, representing Kansai Nepal News, views this teacher rotation decision positively as a step towards promoting equal opportunities and enhancing the quality of education in community schools. He appreciates the Municipality’s proactive approach to ensuring fair distribution of teaching resources and expertise among schools, which can ultimately benefit students and educational outcomes.
